Issue Position: Rural Heritage

Issue Position

* One of the great things about living in Wisconsin is the rural and agricultural settings we are blessed to enjoy. However, if we don't take steps to ensure their continued viability, those things could someday be lost. To this end the Wisconsin Rural Initiative has been born which brings the concerns of rural residents into the attention of state legislators. We need to continue this important work.
* Conservation doesn't mean leaving natural resources to be wasted. Rather, conservation allows natural resources to be used and enjoyed responsibly with an eye towards renewing and replenishing. To this end we need to carefully consider the exploitation of our natural resources, not just with an eye to leaving them untouched, but rather with consideration of whether or not their use will allow renewal and replenishment where possible.
* Local Control is essential for the management of municipal and county budgets. Too often the legislature passes a law which requires services from counties and local municipalities, but doesn't include the money to pay for the services. It is time for the legislature to stop passing along unfunded mandates to local units of government as well as time for the State to meet its previously agreed upon financial obligations to local governments.
